How it all Ended =O

Summary:
Angela admits to the narrator that Santiago was the one that took her virginity away, but it was weird because Angela and Santiago were never seen together. For Angela life has not been very fair, her mom beats her up a lot and her secret lover died. Pablo, her brother, also died and the family all moved to a different town. Everything was changing for Angela and she was not able to let go of the love she felt for a guy by the name of, Bayardo. She wrote one letter per week for seventeen years and sent them to him and every time her mom beat her, she cried because of the guy she loved not of the pain she felt while being hit. Nevertheless, one day while Angela is working, he appears in her work with some more weight and less hair. He puts down two suitcases which had one containing his clothes, and the other all of the letters she sent him organized by date and tied with a ribbon. What i found most surprisingly thought was that they were all unopened. Then later on in the story it is revealed that the Vicario brothers wanted to kill Santiago to respect their sister's honor since he took her virginity apparently. Santiago had no idea of what was going on and he was scared, then while walking home, the brothers stabbed him several times. However, he was still able to get up and got home and threw himself on the kitchen floor.

Quote:
"Mortally wounded three times, Santiago Nasar turned frontward again and leaned his back against his mother's door, without the slightest resistance, as if he only wanted to help them finish killing him by his own contribution" (Marquez).

Response:
I found it weird how Santiago was not resisting the Vicario brothers in any way. It makes it look as if he wanted to be killed. If it was me or any other person who wanted to live they would have done something to save themselves.
