And the Thruth is Revealed =x !

Summary:
Holden finally decided to visit Phoebe to talk to her and see what is going on in her life. Phoebe, his little sister started talking with him since they did not talk for a while. Since Holden really confides in Phoebe he told her that he got kicked out of school because of his failing grades. Phoebe then was really disappointed and started talking to Holden about what he plans to do with his life and Holden just kept evading her since he knew he had no clue on what to do with his future. Then Holden tells her that he's planning on leaving New York, he does not want to be with his family and he just decides that the best thing to do is leave. Then he calls Mr. Antolini, his favorite teacher and he lets him spend the night at his house. Afterwards, he went to Mr. Antolini's house and then when he left he went to the Grand Central Station then the next day he planned to meet up with Phoebe. When she saw him she had a suitcase and wanted to go with Holden but he refused then he just decided to take her to the zoo and in the end he just decided to go home with Phoebe. In the end result, Holden goes home and the story ends with the reader not truly knowing what will truly happen with Holden's future.

Quote:
"It's 'If a body meet a body coming through the rye'!" Old phoebe said. "It's a poem by Robert Burns" (Salinger 224).

Response:
This quote shows the significance to the story as a whole. First of all, this basically shows where the title was derived from and how it captures the book as a whole. Holden tried to say this quote and then Phoebe corrected him and he basically meant that he wanted to save children before they fall the same way Holden fell.

Can Holden Get More Annoying?

Summary:
Holden all throughout this chapter and even the book is acting in an annoying matter. He would always get on everyone's case and start talking about them as if he were a little kid. I infer that Holden has some type of hyperactive disorder. His attitude always reflects him acting in a childish way which does not really fit in with his age and the way his mind should run. Not many people get along with Holden and they act hypocritical towards him. I can tell Holden tries really hard to find new friends but he jus completely fails at it. Like in chapter 14 Holden hires a promiscuous girl but ends up not doing anything with her and he only pays her $5 when he was supposed to pay her $10. Then the girl's manager got mad and asked Holden for the money and as Holden refused, the guy punched him. Holden needs to learn how to grow up and live in the grown up world because he is definitely past the age of a child.

Quote:
"I've lived in New York all my life... I must have been drunker than I thought"(Salinger 200).

Response:
Holden at times feels so lonely that he lowers himself to get drunk and confide in alcohol to help him feel better. However, he lacks to know that alcohol causes him more problems than he ever thought.

How unreliable can Holden get?

Summary:
Holden went around New York seeking adventure since he did not want to go to home until Christmas vacation. Holden was a very lonely boy that in my opinion has some hyperactive disorder. Every time he would get on a cab he would ask the taxi drivers where the ducks go during winter. Holden also finds himself to be the only dumb one in his family. For example, his sister has gotten straight A's ever since she started school, his older brother is a writer who lives in Hollywood, and his dead brother was admired by all his teachers from how well he did in school. On the other hand, Holden is not as smart as them, since he got kicked out for bad grades in school. Not that many people like Holden because of the way his character is. He asks a lot of questions at times that have no importance whatsoever.

Quote:
"I have a helluva lot of trouble just finding what I'm looking for, for God's sake, if you know what I mean" (Salinger 122).

Response:
Not only does Holden annoy people a lot but he is also indecisive. He knows what he wants, but yet he wants it exactly how he depicts it. That is a bad characteristic because you are never going to get exactly what you want in life.

What's going to happen next?

Summary:
Holden was tired of living in the dorms so he decided to leave before he was even required to. However, he wasn't man enough to tell his family that he got kicked out of school so he decided to stay in a hotel until Christmas vacations arrived. Throughout this section of the book I realized that Holden has a very powerful connection with his little sister because he was always talking about how he wanted to call her but it's not like she would of picked up the phone. On the other hand, his relationship with his parents wasn't as good especially since he didn't have the trust needed to tell them he has once again gotten kicked out of another school. Especially since this time it was because he failed to do well academically. If he was able to get kicked out for a reason such as bad grades he should have had the audacity to tell his parents the truth. Also, he amazingly fought with the school's principle. Holden is just a volcano that's waiting to erupt. He has had a rough life, I can tell. Especially because in the story it was stated that Holden's brother died from leukemia and Holden's most prized possession was his brother's baseball mitt since his brother used to always spend his day playing catch or baseball.

Quote:
"I was only thirteen, and they were going to have me psychoanalyzed and all, because i broke all the windows in the garage" (Salinger 50).

Response:
This quote proves that Holden does in fact have a hard life. The people he cares about somehow disappear or end up disappointing him. His brother was the family's pride and everyone like him since he was just so smart and friendly. After his death, Holden went crazy and just started breaking all the windows and now his fist doesn't function well. In other words, he can't punch with it and he can't even make a fist.

Holden's beginning =O !

Summary:
First of all Holden gets kicked out of college and for what reason? It's because he is failing all of his classes, if he would of been more diligent with his work and he stopped ostracizing his work he would of done a lot better. However, Holden was apparently oblivious towards school, which ended up leading him down the wrong path of failure. On the other hand, Holden might have been failing all his classes, but he was not dumb in any shape or form. This book also unravels itself in a very interesting way. As i was reading the summary on the cover of the book I saw that it stated that this novel contains many voices of which include children and adults. I also saw that it was very interesting how i found some of the words that we receive for vocabulary being put into context. Well, basically what the first section of this book is doing is that it's describing what the main plot is going to basically be throughout the story. I can infer that Holden is going to be a troublemaker since the book has already told us that this is his third school in which he encountered difficulties in.

Quote:
"I'm the most terrific liar you ever saw in your life" (22 Salinger).

Response:
Further expanding what I brought up before about inferring that Holden would be a troublemaker, I also had some help coming up with that inference from Holden's statement of being a great liar. If someone comes clean about being a great liar what they are trying to say is that they have gotten experience and have learned to make parents and even anyone they have contact with become gullible.

Marilyn's downfall =( !

Summary:
After Marilyn had finally reached what she dreaded for so badly she started breaking down. Marilyn became an actress and she was becoming famous but apparently all of the fame and fortune wasn't worth it. Even though Marilyn was envied by a lot of other girls Marilyn wasn't happy with her life. She made many mistakes that could never be fixed and people that didn't know her life story thought she was a promiscuous girl. Even now people that truly don't know Marilyn think she is an easy girl that would let guys do anything they wanted with them. However, I know Marilyn's story and I can honestly state that Marilyn deserves respect and for people to care about her because she went through a lot during her child and adulthood. Joe DiMaggio held a funeral for Marilyn and she was laid to rest in August 8, 1962. Until today Marilyn also remains being a legend in the world of acting.

Quote: "In Marilyn's case, the triggering event, the specific incident that pushed her over the edge, seems to have been nothing more than her doctor's having gone to a dinner party with his wife" (Leaming 424).

Response: Marilyn wanted nothing more than to be an actress. On the other hand, she also wanted to find true love but everything just seemed so hard for her to achieve. Joe DiMaggio however, did love Marilyn but things just didn't seem to work out between them since they had different views on certain things. In the end Joe was really upset about Marilyn's death and he still loved her even after she died.

There's Still Hope Left For Marilyn!

Summary:
Marilyn Monroe dreaded to have a child and saw the opportunity. She was so ecstatic when she was pregnant from Arthur Miller that she was very fearful to lose the child. Marilyn was ready to leave her bacchanalian lifestyle and settle down to have a child but she never got the opportunity to actually have and raise a human being. She started consuming pills and drinking alcohol because in a weird way she thought that was going to help her baby stay healthy, but apparently she was strongly mistaken since she had a miscarriage. After her baby died she fell into a strong depression and she started wondering why her baby died. She really wanted to have a baby but her desire soon came to a halt. Afterwards, Marilyn wasn't as enthusiastic about the movies but she still wanted to remain married to Miller, she actually had strong feelings for him.

Quote:
"From then on, her hopes of the film had died. But Marilyn's attitude to her marriage was a very different story. She was utterly determined to keep that dream alive" (Leaming 271).

Response:
The quote proves the point that I was talking about when I stated that Marilyn was willing to give up her acting career but she still wanted to keep the marriage she had with Miller. Miller showed that he really cared about her and he really helped her throughout her acting career especially since he was a movie director at the time. Nevertheless, they ended up getting a divorce on 1961.

Marilyn's Outcome

Summary:
Marilyn was living a great life until her life started hitting a downfall. She was truly in love with Joe DiMaggio but Marilyn's life became a problem in their marriage, she became famous and many guys just wanted to have sex with her. After dealing through all of these problems, Marilyn and DiMaggio decided to get a divorce on October 27, 1954, while remaining intimate friends. Latter on in 1959, Marilyn won a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy. Marilyn also came by the decision of finally marrying and settling down with Arthur Miller, a playwright that helped Marilyn through achieving success in her acting career. During the time period in which they were married, Arthur made films especially for Marilyn. However, on January 20, 1961 their marriage ended. Marilyn didn't have long marriages with Arthur or Joe but for the time she was with them she seemed happy.

Quote:
"Marilyn's relationship with Arthur changed when his wife found out about the love affair" (Leaming 189).

Response:
Marilyn actually started seeing Arthur in secret but as soon as his wife found out everything changed. Mary, Arthur's wife kicked him out and he became closer to Marilyn as a result. Arthur showed support towards Marilyn that was very special to Marilyn leading her to fall for him. After some time, they became official and Marilyn decided to marry him. The women who barely ever wanted to settle down for a person actually married twice. You can tell how people influenced her life in good and bad ways. Such that she became more serious but was also more depressive at times because of her fear to be neglected.

Marylin Suceedes

Summary:
After never being able to acquire the goals Marilyn dreaded for, she met Joe DiMaggio. DiMaggio was a famous baseball player for the Yankees and he feel madly in love with Marilyn. He wanted to marry her but wanted her to stop acting. Marilyn wasn't going to give up her dreams of being an actress so she didn't let DiMaggio talk her out of acting. Even though he didn’t want his "girl" to act, he still supported her. Marilyn landed a spot in some films like Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and she started becoming recognized. She had finally reached her full potential in acting.

Quote:
"This was the moment Marilyn had been working toward since she was a sad, lonely little girl in an orphanage" (Leaming 88).

Response:
This quote describes how when someone really wants something and they work hard for it, the goal is attainable. Many people want things but the never put dedication toward those things so in the end they are left with nothing. However, this wasn't the case for Marilyn since she actually won her stardom after trying countless times.

Merilyn Monroe

Summary:

Barbara Leaming's, Merilyn Monroe or Norma Jeane is about a girl that was left alone in the world at a very young age. She didn't like accepting the fact that she was an orphan but the facts were inevitable. She wanted nothing but to be an actress but this goal seemed too hard to accomplish. While she was in some houses many men abused of her since she was beautiful. However, Merilyn was given a shot in Hollywood and she wasn't about to let it go. She started being intimate with many guys in order to get what she wanted. Nevertheless, she didn't want money or power so she turned down marriage offers. Johnny, a guy that fell in love with Marilyn told her to not be in films that weren't a big deal because then she would never obtain the big break she was longing for. To Marilyn's disgrace Johnny died from a heart attack and she felt lonesome again; she even tried to commit suicide but wasn't successful.

Quote:
"Money and security, the things Hyde and now Schenck offered, were never really what she was after. The whole point of getting involved with Johnny, Kazan, or any other men in her life had been to help her reach a goal. She wanted to be a person in her own right" (Leaming 26)
Response:
Marilyn wanted people to respect her and admire her. She wanted to accomplish her aspiration by becoming a famous actress. Many people thought she just wanted money and eternal wealth so many men told her to marry them. I think she was a woman with a set mind. She didn't want to marry someone she wasn't in love with. Many people in her place would have accepted the offers Marilyn received but not Marilyn.
